Pinterest is…

Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard that lets you organize and share links to various websites by “pinning” the images found in a given website to a “board”. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. You can browse pinboards created by other people and “re-pin” their links to your boards. To get started, request an invite from Pinterest or a friend who you know is already on there.
According to Pinterest,“Our goal is to connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting. We think that a favorite book, toy, or recipe can reveal a common link between two people. With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interests.”2
Pinterest Terminology
What is a pin? An image added to Pinterest through a website or a file on your computer. If it is from a website, it also acts as a link to the site it comes from.
What is a board? A board is a set of pins regarding a specific topic, which can have as many pins as you want.
What is following? Similar to Facebook and Twitter, following on Pinterest is just a way to stay connected to other people. If you are following someone, you are able to see his or her boards.

Signed up the other day…but on hold due to all the copy right concerns. Read several blogs on this issue. What is your thought on people’s copyright?
Always respect copyright! The key is to 1) acknowledge the owner/creator 2) if you don’t know the owner/creator then be sure to make it known that you are not it 3) it’s acceptable to re-pin something but never make claim to it or use it to promote anything of your own.
